Cancer is a global problem… and also a very personal problem for every person who hears the words “You have cancer”.

We have learned more about cancer in the past 30 years than in all the millennia before that.

We now know that cancer is a disease of our genes caused by mutations (or changes) in genes and/or how genes are regulated. We know that the immune system tries – but often fails – to control cancer. We have developed technologies to help us find cancers earlier because we know that, if detected early, a significant proportion of cancers can be treated effectively with surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. However, cancer remains an extremely complex disease.

Participating in the #NoHairSelfie Campaign gives us the chance to show our solidarity with Canadians undergoing cancer treatment and provides much-needed funds for cancer research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.
